Hyatt Guest of Honor, between two members
The award itself moves between accounts, once. After that the recipient books their own stay with it — which changes what each side is relying on.
The short answer
A Guest of Honor award is transferable. The holder gifts it from their own World of Hyatt account using the recipient's last name and member number, and it lands in the recipient's account instantly. The recipient then books their own stay and applies it. An award can only be transferred once, so it cannot be passed on again.
Read this part. World of Hyatt's terms prohibit buying, selling and bartering awards, and accounts have been closed over it. That a transfer button exists does not mean the programme permits the arrangement behind it. Decide for yourself whether what you are doing sits inside the rules before you agree to it — the exposure is on the two accounts involved.
What the recipient actually gets
One award covers a stay of up to seven nights and gives the guest top-tier benefits on it, whether the room is paid for or booked with points:
- Breakfast or club lounge access, typically for two adults and two children
- Room upgrades where available
- Resort and facility fees waived
- Late checkout, parking on award stays, internet and water
It applies to bookings made directly with Hyatt. It does not stack with free-night certificates, and every award carries an expiry date — so check how long the one you are being offered has left. What Guest of Honor is, in full.
Step by step
Check the award before anything else
Ask when it expires, and confirm it has not already been gifted once. An award that has been transferred cannot move again, and one expiring next month is worth less than one with a year on it.
Check the stay is bookable
The award is only worth what you can use it on. Confirm the property and dates you have in mind are available and eligible before agreeing a price, not after it has landed in your account.
Agree the sequence in writing
Who transfers first, when, and what happens if the award does not arrive or arrives with less time on it than described. Keep it in your BuySellPoints conversation so there is a record.
Exchange only the details the transfer needs
Gifting an award needs the recipient's last name and World of Hyatt number. That is all. Never share a password, security answers, or a one-time code in either direction.
Transfer through Hyatt
The holder gifts it from the awards section of their own account, on the site or in the app, or by calling Hyatt. Do not use a third party offering to arrange it, and do not hand anyone account access.
Confirm it landed, then close out
The recipient should see the award in their own account before either side treats the exchange as complete. It arrives instantly, so there is no reason to settle on a promise.
Confirm with the programme first
Hyatt changes these rules without much notice. Treat anything here as a prompt to check the source rather than a guarantee.
- Whether Hyatt's terms permit the arrangement you are making
- The award's expiry date, and whether it has been transferred before
- Exactly which benefits apply, and at which property types
- Whether the stay you want is eligible, and the maximum nights covered
- The cancellation rules, and whether the award returns if a stay is cancelled
Red flags
- Anyone asking for your login, password, or a one-time code
- Being asked to settle before the award is in your account — it arrives instantly, so there is no reason to
- Vagueness about the expiry date, or about whether it has already been gifted once
- Pressure to move quickly or to continue off-platform
- Anyone telling you the programme has no view on this. It does.
